Seven magical Autumn equinox musings...
I love nothing more than sharing every year on this blog all about autumn equinox, I personally find equinox a powerful time of year for a mini reset and release. As I share regularly, the power of reset points are so good to get us present, reflect and to look at changes that may need to be made, but to also pause and as we all know the power of the pause is something we can always do more of.
Here’s an old blog post all about this topic.

Back to autumn equinox which is where we are heading to in the northern hemisphere, in the southern it’s spring, but in this post I’m sharing all about autumn.
On the day of the equinox the sun passes through the equator and we have a day of equal light and darkness, this is for both spring and autumn.
It’s a powerful point of stillness.
After this, with the autumn one we are heading towards shorter days and longer nights and it’s our journey towards to the winter solstice, essentially our journey back through the darkness and we see nature going into hibernation too.
We associate this with cosying in and no more heady light summer nights.
With the unprecedented times we have been in this year of 2020, I feel there’s an even bigger importance for us all to observe these points, to reset, nourish, reclaim ourselves and get clear with where we are at, especially as we’ve been carrying so much this year, the times have been so heavy at points.
Here’s seven ways to observe or celebrate the autumn equinox:
It’s the perfect time to have a clear out and declutter, so think about how you can restore some balance in your home, as nature shows us with the trees losing their leaves, it’s about releasing what we no longer need.
What do you need to let go of in your life following on from the above, as its not just about the physical clearing out, it’s the perfect energy to release old habits or behaviours. Think about whats not serving you and how you could go about releasing it in a positive way for you, and think about what you want right now and how you can make that happen or it could be a time for you pause and give yourself some time to see what you really want rather than to rush.
Right now we are in harvest time so its the perfect time to get grateful for the things you have and whats in your life, as well as the outer harvest for the physical things you are grateful for, it’s also important to celebrate the things you have achieved so far this year too. Crack out the gratitude list, sit with it and feel those good feelings from seeing these things written down, this is a great way to shift any stuck perspectives you may have, it can be easy to get lost in things if they have been tough, but theres always something to be grateful for no matter how small. Gratitude is a powerful tool for the tool box.
Make a mini equinox alter, with some autumnal offering and some written intentions and some things to celebrate where you want to head in the winter. Plus it looks good and it’s bringing the season into your home, when we connect to nature like this it connects us on a deeper level.
On the topic of your home, it’s the perfect time to get ready for winter bring out the blankets, candles and the cosy things to bring some warmth into your home. Making small changes to our space is a powerful thing to do as it brings in fresh energy and changes things up and can really change the mood of a room.
Access how you can nourish and look after yourself better, self care is often the first thing to slip off as time passes and how we look after ourselves is the last thing we do when we are busy. However with winter coming it’s the perfect time to look what you can do for yourself here and give more to your health. Having a reset here will be a super positive thing for your wellbeing and the energy supports you in letting go of habits that aren’t serving you. Often people can feel quite tired around this season and this is the energy of release, nature and our bodies own way to detox us.
Lastly, get out in nature for reflection and to connect to the season this way, we aren’t separate from nature but often our lifestyles disconnect us from it. Reflection is important but this is something in the western world thats underrated. It’s a great way to observe and celebrate the season and it allows us to pause right in it and be grateful for the beauty of it too. We have to remember we are connected to the seasons, even our bodies have their own inner seasons and even a business does. Nothing runs in a straight line life ebbs and flows, and does so for good reason else how else would we release things for instant or the opposite of this is when we are in the season of peak productivity. Which is why we need to honour the seasons on all the different levels.
I hope this little list provides you with some positive ideas to connect with the autumn equinox, with so much uncertainty still ahead right now doing things like this can only serve us and fill us up on the inside and make us feel more connected, rather than feeling separate which is so important right now.
As people are feeling disconnected, let this equinox be a powerful time of reflection from what was and a time to release what you need too, and let it reconnect you back to yourself and nature.
Happy autumn equinox.
I would love you to share with me your thoughts about autumn equinox and how you are feeling.
